Ellen, Art and Yorkshire

Ellen Galvin has returned to the Dales after spending a year in Australia, where her husband Peter was on an academic sabbatical. Large spaces, intense natural colours and open skies were there to be painted and, no surprise, found their way onto many a canvas.

Since coming back to Pateley Bridge, Ellen has found herself growing still bolder in her interpretations of the natural beauty of North Yorkshire, continuing to combine the characteristic features of the real landscape with the strong abstract representation that makes her prints such a perfect complement to the neutral tones of a modern home.

With her family now raised to adulthood, Ellen looks forward to spending more time with her art and putting the final touches on The Barn , a traditional Upper Nidderdale agricultural building now converted for use as an occasional gallery and meeting place.
